Am I part of them? Are they part of me? |
Well, he didn't think his heart could shatter anymore, but there it was, as her small hands wrapped around one of his own and she started crying, he reached forward with his free hand and picked Lelana up into a hug, chin resting on her shoulder, he sat there with her in silence for just a second, still sobbing his own tears. "No, don't you dare." He finally started. "You did absolutely nothing wrong. You were and are a gentle soul that wants nothing but to help and heal others." He still held onto her if she let him, large arms wrapped around her tightly. "I can't even imagine what they'd do to someone that stood up for me... I'm just so glad you stayed safe. You're in one piece."
Finally though, he relinquished his own grip on her, letting her step back on his own. "But.. there is one thing I should admit to." He mentally prepared his self, reminding his self to stay positive, the worst will come when and if it comes. He placed his trust in that and looked down at his self once again. "I shouldn't be alive. The way they left me. I couldn't move for a while outside of dragging my sorry ass. Infection set in a-and Hylia just didn't fucking answer." His voice broke when he said Hylia, shooting a glare upwards. "Not a single thing was answered. I mean, I never believed in her in the first place, so why should I get help? Maybe it was my time or some cheese like that. I dunno. I wasn't ready to die yet though, so, well. I heard a darker voice that explained itself as Ganon." He shifted backwards where he was sitting, palms squeezing nervously at the fabric over his knees. "I wasn't ready to die in the damned snow and ice, so... I... sold a part of my soul to ganon and became a monster. I.. got to keep my life in exchange for loyalty to him."
He grew silent, his eyes staring at the ground beneath his feet. He was still Ganon's monster, and there was some pride in that. He had strength and he had gotten his life back in exchange for that small part of him, he wasn't lied to. "I wasn't ignored and discarded." He spoke mostly to his self, his voice still shaking.

Oh, what she would have given for this embrace over and over again the last nine years. She clung to him as he held her both crying their own tears, bearing their own burdens. She stayed silent as he spoke, pressed up against his chest she listened to his words echo through his body, she could feel his tears and his sorrow and she wanted to badly to heal those wounds. Unfortunately, her medicine could not mend a broken heart; being an empath she could feel his brokenness as if it was tangible for her to see, touch, hear, and smell.
When he did let her go she was reluctant to move but the water was boiling and she went about putting the prepared fiddleheads into the pot and rotated the fish as he talked. So that explained why he looked different and smelled different. His words where grave and heavy and she could see his nervousness and discomfort, he was still the same boy she would patch up while he was in basic training and she was a newly appointed apprentice.
Though she had strong convictions for the Mother she did not have the zealot mentality many of her fellow Zora did. While it did dishearten her that he had to resort to exchanging a part of himself for his life she understood. They had butted heads many times in debates about the semantics of the theology but it had always challenged her to grow and not be so narrowminded. She had never judged him before and she wasn’t going to now.
She gently cradled his chin in the palm of her hands and gently raised his head so that his gaze met her gentle one “Never be ashamed for the choices you make, you’re the one that has to live with them at the end of the day and you are the only one you owe anything to.” Her voice was firm with conviction, it’s what she had kept telling herself ever since she left home. It had only been a few weeks but that’s why she was slowly building up the gumption to take those first steps outside of Lanayru .

Flynn felt her lift his face up, the scent of the plants and fish she was working with lingered over her own, but were still there and strong. The fact that she hadn't turned tail and bolted was more than enough relief for him, in fact, he was pretty sure he could've fainted from shock. With a harsh snort, trying to clear his nose, he gave her a sloppy grin, face still tinted and eyes slightly sweollen from all the crying.
With another sniff, he looked the side, pulling his head out of her hands to cough away from her. "Dammit I hate how much crying messes yer face up." Laughing awkwardly, he crossed one leg over the other and stood up a bit, reaching around Lelana with easy to snatch the three fish he had skewered. Sitting back down on the log, he silently offered her one of his fish while biting into another, sharp teeth and strong jaw making the job of eating the cooked creature a breeze.
Chewing quickly but quietly, he stopped a moment to stare at the flame. "Why're ya so far out from the domain?" Swallowing what he had in his cheek, he continued eating, watching Lelana with curious eyes. "Ya don't gotta answer." he reassured her, quickly finishing a bass, moving onto the second one.

She smiled softly at him as she prepared the fiddleheads “Sorry they’re bland…didn’t think to grab salt and none of the seasoning herbs are in season,” she said handing him one of the plates “also I forgot to grab cutlery, but it’s the wilds so…civilization means little out here. Its liberating in away” she mused softly tending to the fire. She emptied the pot and refilled it with fresh snow so she could make the tea, she needed it more than anything to calm her nerves and nothing did that better than lavender and chamomile.
Settling back down beside him she ate quietly trying to let her mind catch up from all its swirling to the present. His question pulled her out of her thoughts and she looked up at him reflectively before looking back down at their fire. She wasn’t surprised he had asked; but where to begin.
“I wanted to pilot Va Ruta, but poppa wasn’t going to have it. He said that I wasn’t capable or competent enough. Pair that with his pressure for me to marry and I finally got fed up with being told my place with in the home and to be quiet unless spoken to.” Her voice was tight and tense as she spoke but she quickly changed to her brighter, lighter tone of voice.
“So that’s why I’m leaving Lanaryu and the domain, I am going to see all of Hyrule studying plants and people. Learning new things….” She leaned back looking up at the sky “it’s too big of a world for me to stay in a cage just because someone says I shouldn’t do it. I am going to forge my own path, with my own choices, my own mistakes, my own joys and pains.” She trailed off “I just want my own place to be crafted by my own efforts and not be kept in a box anymore. That ignorance cost me more than I care to admit.”
It was so easy to talk to him, it was as if they had never stopped.

Am I part of them? Are they part of me? |
Flynn watched Lelani as she spoke, eating the fiddleheads slowly. He didn't really like it, not cause it was bland, but because he'd had a strong urge to devour meat at almost all times. Very rarely did he ever crave a plant of any kind. Often times he could be found eating a kill raw if he couldn't afford to make a fire, or make one at all due to weather. It never bothered him, but his mentality did falter just a bit every time he did. He'd feel less and less like an actual person every time he had to resort to such animalistic, instinctual things.
The biggest problem for him was the smell of wounded prey. He had become much more in touch with the primal instincts that drove creatures like Malgyorg to hunt, dominate and survive. Maybe that's why he felt such a kinship with the animals. Hunted due to fear, voracious eaters with an appetite that could never seem to be satiated, tough, powerful albeit a little slow. Maybe living on his own for so long was what was giving him these mentalities, then again, he was still kinda fresh at this whole monster things, only having spent a couple of months in this new body.
"Wow. If we ever run into each other again, you have to tell me stories if you can." He couldn't enter any towns or villages anymore, so that only added to his solitude. He honestly didn't like the idea that she'd have to go at some point, but he'd have to accept it and just try to keep his head up! They'd have to bump into each other at some point again, right? Squinting at the ground, he looked over to Lelana. "I'm glad you've finally grown brave enough to escape. Nothing good comes of that domain..." Looking off in the direction of the domain, he looked back at her, smiling lightly. "At least not for people like us, who think differently from the crowd!"
He sighed and finished the rest of his fish before he could think twice about it. He also finished the plant out of curtousy as well, though it was obvious that he was adverse to the plant, it was simply because his body didn't crave it though. He froze though and lifted his head, sniffing the air. Thankfully, his stupidly heightened sense of smell had it's perks. And one of those perks was smelling monster. This place was absolutely riddled with lizalfos, and he knew that the smell of cooking fish would probably lure them in. It was a risk he took every day though when he gathered food. "Stay on your toes."

She was going to suggest he come with her, she would have liked a companion and now that she knew he was alive she was torn about leaving even more. She didn’t have time for that though when he stiffened and gave her a warning. She hadn’t smelled it yet but she trusted him instinctually. She had finished her food anyway but she quickly set that aside to go and reclaim her spear.
She unfastened her cloak and draped it over the log, a chill ran over her scaly flesh, that would be too cumbersome if she were to fight properly. One hand holding her spear while the other fingered the hilt of her hunting knife on her hip.
“Where is it?”
She was alert, tense, and ready for a fight. She wasn’t thrilled by the death as most fighters, the life leaving another’s body hurt her to a degree but this was different. Fighting for your own life was more important than sparing someone else theirs if the situation called for it.

Sure enough, reptilian sounds can be heard from the cliff face… but something didn’t seem right about it. If it were coming to take food it would be trying to be more quiet. As the, clearly panicked lizalfos clears the cliff edge it begins to charge towards the group. Before it can get far a new sound brings itself to the forefront of the zora’s hearing. Chitinous skittering. A very large skulltula climbs up from the cliff and shoots web after the lizalfos, binding it and pulling it towards the large spider. Suddenly seeming to notice what it has stumbled upon, it looks at the monstrous zora. Speaking without using words, but somehow understood by Flynn. “Oh… you must have been here for a while, we did not smell the other, she blended so well with the fish. You did good, luring her into a sense of comfort. My brood shall help you tighten your web. For the glory of Ganon, of course.”
At these ‘words’ 3 more, smaller skulltulas climb up from the cliff as well. Moving to surround the female zora.

Flynn's eyes narrowed at everything happening around him, then there it was, a Skulltula snatching the lizalfos mid charge and drawing it in. How unusual- oh... oh shit. She was speaking to him. If it was one thing he learned, it was he could sometimes hear some shit that he didn't want to hear. Quickly, noticing the other skulltulas moving in, he gripped Lelana's shoulder with a large hand and pulled her into his side. "Wait! Don't scare her! Call off the brood!" He spoke up, sighing out as he tried to keep his calm.
"I've known this one here long before I joined up on Ganon's side." He looked to Lelana, then back to the skulltula. "But this is the first time meeting in a long time, 'm surprised I didn' up n lose my head." He continued trying to keep his breathing even, he needed to think of a way to convince these Skulltula to let them go. He watched the other skulltula and tried to keep a grip on Lelana, but it wasn't a crushing grip like it should've been, she could easily get away from him if she was quick enough.
"Convertin' takes time n she's always had n open mind. She's a damn good healer, n 'm speakin from experience. She could be n asset, that's why I don' wanna hurt 'er." He looked back down at Lelana for just a second, eyes hoping that she'd trust him enough to handle this. He didn't want to betray Ganon, but he also didn't want her to feel used. If they made it out of this without conflict and she was pissed off afterwards, so be it.

Lelana had been preparing to dive into defending them but when he grabbed her and pulled her in to him her only reaction was to stand there. She could tell he wasn’t holding her too tightly that would have given her the ability to slip away if she needed to. Who was he talking to? It didn’t make any sense to her but when he looked down at her she felt a resolve come over her to simply trust him in this moment.
She hadn’t seen skulltula before in her travels through the domain, she edged into him closer as the other skulltula began to surround them. She dropped her spear in a hopeful indication that she meant no harm as her other hand traced the hilt of her dagger. She would let him talk for now, see if whatever was going on worked and let him explain later. When he looked back down at her she nodded slightly her eyes glowing with a soft ferocity that the once meek and tender Zora never had before.
She knew she was putting her life on the line not acting immediately. Her life was in his hands right now and if it managed to slip through she wouldn’t fault him for it, not unless he came after her. But that would be a different problem entirely; don’t go borrowing trouble form where it’s not wanted. Her mother’s warning ran through her mind cautioning her.

Chittering her mandibles impatiently, “Why do you waste time? Why does it not demand from her servitude? If it wants her to be born again, demand the rites from her. All who do not belong to the dark lord should know terror before being born again.”
Stepping forwards slightly, “We can bite her and tie her. She will either die or be born again. Just like the rest.”
The rest of her brood backs up a bit, giving some space for their mother to work.
Bout to get serious. Flynn Lelana
